Paint big, loosen up and let go at Large Abstract Canvas, a one-day intuitive abstract painting workshop in Hove with Paula and Mandy of Intuitive Abstract Circle.
This workshop is run by Intuitive Abstract Circle and booked through West Hove Studio, so you can book and pay for your place right here.
Forget copying a photo or chasing a perfect finish. Here you'll paint to music, trust your instincts and watch your canvas grow layer by layer. You'll work with bold colour and some wonderfully unexpected tools, from sponges and rollers to scrapers, bubble wrap and your own fingertips. Every painting turns out completely different, and you'll head home with your own large abstract artwork.
It's a mindful, creative day out in Brighton & Hove: a chance to slow down, quieten a busy head and enjoy painting without judgement.

- Price: £235 for 1st November (special price, normally £270), £270 for January and February

Who it's for

About the tutors
Paula is a coach, facilitator and intuitive painter who creates welcoming spaces for people to experiment. Mandy is an intuitive abstract artist whose work is known for rich layering and signature drips, runs and splashes. Friends for over 20 years, together they run Intuitive Abstract Circle.

What's included in my ticket?
Everything you need for the day:
- One large, good-quality canvas to take home, plus a large sheet of paper to practise on
- Acrylic paint, pastels, Posca pens, oil pastels and charcoal
- A selection of brushes and mark-making tools, and an apron
- Live group demonstrations, group practice and individual guidance from Paula and Mandy
- A vegetarian lunch, homemade cake, tea, coffee, snacks and fruit
Do I need any painting experience?
This workshop is about expression, not technique. You won't be copying a reference photo or aiming for a perfect result. It's about following your intuition, playing with paint and seeing where your canvas takes you.
What should I wear and bring?
Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting paint on (an apron is provided). All materials are included, but you're welcome to bring your own if you'd like to use them too.
What happens on the day?
You'll settle in at your workstation with a tea or coffee and meet the other artists, followed by introductions, breathing, visualisation and meditation exercises. Then it's guided group and individual painting, exploring layering, mark-making and texture with lots of different materials and tools, with lunch in the middle. You'll finish the day with your own large abstract canvas to take home.
Where is West Hove Studio?
16 Kingsthorpe Road, Hove BN3 5HR, easy to reach from Brighton and the rest of East Sussex. The studio is on the ground floor with step-free access, and there's paid on-street parking nearby.
