Do I need any experience to join the wax carving workshop?
No experience is needed at all. This is a beginner-friendly jewellery workshop and Beth from Rose Honey Design will guide you through each stage of the process. It is ideal whether you are completely new to jewellery making or simply want to try a creative workshop in Brighton.
What can I make in the workshop?
You can design and carve a ring, pendant or earrings in wax. The workshop is all about creating a personal piece, so you can make something simple and elegant or something more organic and sculptural, depending on your style and confidence.
What is lost wax carving?
Lost wax carving is a traditional jewellery making technique where a design is carved in wax and then professionally cast in metal. It is widely used by jewellers to create bespoke and one-of-a-kind pieces. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of the process and create your own wax model to be cast after the session.
What is included in the ticket price?
All workshop materials, tools, tuition and refreshments are included. You will also receive inspiration ahead of the class to help you think about the jewellery piece you would like to create.
What is the difference between the ticket options?
The Wax Carving Only ticket includes the full workshop and your carved wax design. The Wax Carving + Casting and Finishing in Eco Silver ticket includes the workshop, plus professional casting of your design in recycled eco silver and finishing of the final jewellery piece.
Can I upgrade after booking a wax carving only ticket?
Yes. If you book the wax carving only option, you can choose after the workshop to have your piece cast and finished for an additional cost. This gives you flexibility if you want to decide once you have made your design.
How much does casting cost after the workshop?
If you choose the wax carving only option and later want your design cast and finished, the additional cost for eco silver casting and finishing is £63. If you would like gold plating, this is an additional £45. Heavier or thicker pieces may cost more.
What is eco silver?
Eco silver is recycled silver, making it a more sustainable choice than newly mined metal. It has the same beautiful finish and quality as traditional sterling silver, while using recycled material to reduce environmental impact.
How long does it take to receive the finished jewellery?
Your finished piece will usually be ready within 4 to 6 weeks after the workshop. Once the wax carving is complete, it is sent for casting and professionally finished before being returned to you.
Will I leave with a finished piece on the day?
No — on the day of the workshop you will leave with your wax carved design. If you choose casting and finishing, your completed jewellery will be produced after the event and delivered back to you once finished.
